Position: Programs Manager
Reports to: Deputy Director
Status: Full-time, Exempt; Salaried
Location: On-site in the San Francisco Bay Area with some remote (local) flexibility in off-drive season.
Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., evenings and weekends as required. Vacations are traditionally not scheduled during the months of August and December (due to peak program times), except for the week of Thanksgiving and Christmas/New Year.
Salary: $85,000 — $95,000, commensurate with experience.

Supervises: Programs Team (up to 4-5 individuals, full and part-time), seasonal employees or temps (1-2 individuals).
Purpose of the Position: Family Giving Tree (FGT) is undergoing a reorganization with a newly created Programs and Strategy Team to strengthen our current program deliverables as well as position the organization for future growth. Reporting to the Deputy Director, the Programs Manager is responsible for the execution of agency goals related to providing holiday gifts to nearly 60,000 Bay Area Residents annually, as well as almost 30,000 backpacks and school supplies to students at the beginning of the school year. To meet and exceed these goals, the Programs Team provides excellent communications and service to our partner agencies and maintains and grows a volunteer program to provide best-in-class volunteer experiences to individuals and groups in the Bay Area in our warehouse as well as external events. The Programs Manager provides direct management and direction for all FGT programs, including Back-to-School, Holiday, and additional drives. The Programs Manager advises on budget and manages team expenses, develops and implements policies and procedures related to program execution, and coordinates/integrates programs with other departments in the organization. The Programs Manager oversees our warehouse operations for both Drives and delegates duties as seen fit to appropriate team members.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensures proper management and execution of all key FGT programs and their related activities, including but not limited to Holiday and Back-to-School Drives, off-season programs, post-drive stakeholder evaluations, and other initiatives as necessary. Management of duties includes being available to be on-site in the office and off-site in the warehouses in support of drives and employee management.
- Troubleshoots and identifies issues, inefficiencies, and challenges related to programs and uses logic, experience, and reasoning to develop and evaluate alternative options and implement inclusive solutions.
- Responsible for the selection, training, professional development, and work evaluation of direct reports.
- Motivates and directs staff, temps, and volunteers as they work to ensure successful program drives. Evaluates and improve the effectiveness of Staff, dedicated volunteers, and Volunteer training.
- Oversees the purchasing program for the organization’s drives.
- Collaborates with the Deputy Director in development of the annual budget. Monitors program budgets, monitors purchasing by Purchasing Coordinator, and oversees financial well-being of programs by analyzing cost effectiveness and exercising cost controls; prepares, submits, and justifies budget enhancement requests to the Deputy Director.
- Maintains accurate and useful records of all appropriate FGT program activities and enters/delegates event scheduling in appropriate calendars and databases.
- Ensures all FGT program information on the website is current and accurate; works with Marketing and Programs staff for implementation of updates.
- Works collaboratively with Board of Directors, Executive Director, Operations Director, CFO, staff, seasonal and temp employees, and volunteers.
- Perform other duties as assigned and appropriate.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university preferred, or four years of management experience leading productive teams.
- Minimum 2+ years of program and personnel management experience; strong leadership ability with experience in motivating others and delivering constructive feedback and clear direction.
- Experience with managing program budgets.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must be comfortable in a customer-facing environment and speaking in front of large groups.
- Proven ability to create and maintain a mutually respectful, inclusive, and positive work environment with high professional standards and creative workplace solutions and productivity.
- Ability to work extended hours, especially during the main program season, including evenings and weekends (mainly August and December).
- Ability to lift 25 lbs and to stand for lengthy periods of time is preferred.
- Possess a clean driving record with a current license.
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, strong prioritization skills, and outstanding organization and time management skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office, Salesforce, Google Suite, and communications/project management applications such as Asana and Slack.
